Americans are known for ingenuity — especially when it comes to ways to make a buck.
Here’s another one of those tools that, at first thought, makes you say,
“That’s a great idea! I’m gonna get me one of those.”
But the second thought is, “Hold on there.”
The finest pencils can draw a line about .012″ thick.
But nut slot heights need to end up somewhere around .016″–.020″ when measured at the first fret, fretted at last fret.
When your tolerance is only a couple thousandths of an inch, how do you cut accurately from a line that’s .012″ thick to begin with?
You’re gonna end up trying to cut a precision slot based on a fat pencil line.
Don’t get me wrong — it’s a pretty tool. And it’s a clever idea.
But clever ideas and practical tools aren’t always the same thing.
Still… I’ll bet somebody’s gonna make a buck.
