This Vintage Crestwood Bass made in the famous Japanese Matsumoku factory, probably in the 1960s, is a short scale semi-hollow violin style four string bass guitar (Beatle Bass) that is lightweight, comfortable to play and has the most awesome bassy sound ever!
Comes with original hardcase and all 3 latches work! Schaller tuner keys that work like new!
I bought it from an elderly lady who says she got it used when she was just 15 years old. She did not learn to play bass and it was kept in its case for these many years.
The guitar did not work when I got it and was missing a string. I replaced both volume and tone potentiometers with new, full-size CTS pots and I replaced the 3 way switch with a new one also.
The lacquer finish has a few cracks – these are not wood cracks.
I installed new strings; adjusted the truss rod to tame the relief and lowered the string height (action) to a comfortable, non-buzzing setting.
Nut slots were already at the proper height for good intonation, good playability and no buzzing.
This is a rare and beautiful instrument in exceptional condition. There are some chips around the headstock edges and the Crestwood label has been reattached with a glue gun.
The guitar is in excellent playing condition. I’ve had two bass players try it out and both immediately fell in love with it. (Unfortunately I only know bass players who are broke!) 🙂
